PhD Student Position
Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, University of Bern

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student with background in pharmacology and biochemistry to work on a project co-funded by Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI) and NCCR TransCure. The project is focused on the elucidation of endocannabinoid membrane transport mechanisms and in vitro/in vivo characterization of novel inhibitors of this process. Our group works on the endocannabinoid system, with a focus on molecular pharmacology. Besides basic research this project involves translational aspects as part of a drug discovery and development project.

The successful candidate should hold an MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy, Biochemistry or any related discipline. The position requires practical experience in biochemistry and a broad interest in mammalian physiology and pharmacology (immunology and neurosciences).

Talented applicants should be willing to work in a friendly but goal-oriented and competitive environment.

We offer close supervision by PI and postdocs. An educational program by the Graduate School (GCB) and regular training of presentation opportunities will ensure personal progress. Our Institute and the NCCR TransCure network offer excellent research facilities. Exceptional overseas (non-EU) applicants are welcome. Our vision is to promote women in science and we therefore encourage young female scientists to apply.

Please send your application (by post or email), including a cover letter explaining your motivation, CV, copy of degree/diploma certificates, a brief statement on previous research experience, and contact details for at least two referees to:
