The Institute of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology (VAW) at ETH Zurich seeks a
PhD student in the field of subglacial processes
This project combines borehole experiments with seismic monitoring on Alpine glaciers and will include collaboration with seismologists at the Swiss Seismological Service and ETH's Geophysical Institute to implement existing and develop new techniques for automatic processing of glacier microseismicity.
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, should hold a Master's degree in geophysics, physics, applied mathematics, earth sciences, or engineering, and is familiar with time series analysis on high-level programming languages such as Matlab and Python. The planned glacier experiments require good physical shape and willingness to spend up to several weeks in the field; mountaineering skills would be a plus. The working language is preferably German, but English is also possible; knowledge of German would be an asset in any case. Project start is spring 2017.
For additional information please refer to or contact Fabian Walter, (no applications).

We look forward to receiving your application online ("apply now" below) including a detailed C.V., a letter of motivation, diplomas, and work certificates (if any) addressed to: ETH Zurich, Ms. Corina Niescher, Human Resources, 8092 Zurich, Switzerland. Evaluation of applications will start on 31 January 2017 and continue until the position is filled.
