About

PAGES (Past Global Changes) is an international paleoscience network whose International Project Office is hosted by the University of Bern. As the PAGES community's in-house data scientist, you support working groups in curating, harmonising and analysing paleoscience datasets, and help build the network's products, publications and outreach.

Your tasks

• Data science support to PAGES working groups (curation, harmonisation, ML/AI)
• Management of the Data Stewardship Scholarship
• Data curation, FAIR/LiPD standards, repository liaison
• Co-editor of Past Global Changes Magazine and Horizons
• Contribution to publications (working groups and own research)
• Coordination/reporting on international activities; PAGES representation

Your profile

• PhD in paleoscience, data science, statistics or a computational field
• Strong R/Python skills; version control and reproducible workflows
• Experience with large, heterogeneous proxy/geological databases
• Skilled at handling incomplete, noisy or unevenly sampled time series
• Excellent communication skills; explains methods to non-specialists
• Excellent written/spoken English (German useful, not required)
• Beneficial: PANGAEA/NOAA/Neotoma, LiPD, age-depth modeling, Adobe Creative Suite
