Forward Deployed Engineer (Associate)

Role: Engineer spending a lot of time with financial institution practitioners, shipping solutions that run in production facilitating price discovery, trade execution, limit checks, risk/exposure calculations, workflows, settlements, documents, accounting.

Location: Zurich Office and Switzerland Client Sites. Occasional client travel to Asia Pacific, the Middle East, UK and Europe.

Shall work with: Traders, Risk Managers, Operations, Finance Professionals and a senior FDE mentor from day one.

Will learn: Financial Markets, Instruments, Risk Management from first principles, technology platforms, full stack development, applied AI on real problems.

Where it leads: Owning client engagements, becoming a subject matter expert, or core platform engineer within 3-5 years.

WHAT A FORWARD DEPLOYED ENGINEER (FDE) IS

A product engineer at a typical software company owns a single capability and rarely meets the people who use it. An FDE is the inverse: you own many capabilities and work very closely with people from the financial institutions. Your client will share problems with you that you will understand, potentially build/enhance solutions for and deliver. You learn their business well enough to challenge them on it, and you make the platform do what they need. This is not a pure development job, and it is not pure consulting either. A consultant writes a recommendation and leaves. You deliver solutions that runs on the client's infrastructure, in production, making the client stronger - and you are there months later making it better and solving more problems.

Requirements

We hire across disciplines. You should, however, be passionate about technology and keen to solve client problems.

What we screen for:

-          Strong mathematical intuition and clean logical thinking. This matters far more to us than any specific coursework.

-          Solid programming fundamentals in any language.

-          Native-level German for working with our Swiss clients, and fluent English for working with colleagues across our global offices.

-          Clear written and spoken communication. At times, you will be explaining technical things to non-technical people and functional things to technology personnel.

-          Ownership of an outcome rather than a task.

-          Curiosity about why a business works the way it does, not just what to build.

-          Comfort with ambiguity, and with being the most junior person in a room full of experts. Easiest path to becoming senior fast.
