For the Spectroscopy Group in the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering and Imaging we are looking for a

PhD Student
Magnetic and structural frustration in fluoride pyrochlores
Your tasks
  • Use scattering techniques, primarily diffuse and inelastic neutron scattering, to experimentally investigate correlated structural and magnetic disorder and spin and lattice dynamics in known and new fluoride pyrochlores
  • Develop numerical models of our observations
  • Collaborate with theoreticians (modelling) and chemists (materials discovery and characterization)
  • Publish results in scientific journals and present findings at scientific meetings
Your profile
  • Master degree in physics or physical chemistry
  • Knowledge of neutron/X-Ray scattering and/or numerical simulation of magnetism and/or lattice dynamics is preferred
  • High level of proficiency in numerical data analysis and/or computer simulation
  • Able to work independently in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research team
  • Willing to regularly travel internationally 
  • Good communication skills in English
